Our Story
About Affordable Mini Homes
Affordable Mini Homes exists to make high-quality modular housing accessible, durable, and honest. We believe that a home should be thoughtfully designed, clearly priced, and built to last — without unnecessary complexity or inflated costs.
A Family Business with 50+ Years of Experience
Affordable Mini Homes is a family-owned business led by a father-and-son team, Dale and Brad Mitchell, rooted in more than 50 years of experience in wood products, construction, and modular housing.
We’re not a startup or a mass-market factory brand — our business is the continuation of a long-standing craft tradition. Our approach combines generational knowledge of materials with modern building systems to create homes that are both efficient and enduring.
Built in America, by Skilled Craftspeople
All of our homes are built in the United States by trained builders in a controlled environment near Lake George in Upstate New York. This location places our production in the heart of a region known for its forestry, craftsmanship, and building expertise.
By building in a controlled environment, we are able to deliver:
- •Consistent construction quality
- •Reduced material waste
- •Fewer delays due to weather
- •Greater precision in assembly
Every home is constructed with the intention that it will perform reliably for decades.
Thoughtful Materials: Reclaimed and Responsibly Sourced
One of the defining principles of our homes is the use of high-quality wood materials, including both reclaimed and sustainably sourced products.
We actively incorporate:
- •Reclaimed wood from historic American infrastructure
- •Forest-certified lumber from responsibly managed sources
A notable example is the use of reclaimed wood from the original Tappan Zee Bridge. This material has been carefully recovered, reconditioned, and milled for use in both exterior and interior applications.
Because this wood comes from old-growth forests, it offers:
- •Exceptional density
- •Natural resistance to rot and weather
- •Long-term structural stability
By combining these reclaimed materials with modern, forest-certified wood products, we ensure that our homes are not only sustainable — but built to endure.
